# 3068  For Fairport Teamwork is Priority

In their last time out, the Red Raiders had a 17-3 record and went all the way to the NYS finals behind the efforts of Klay Stuver, Colin Peers and Gavin Ingalls among others on the offensive end and Tim Defendis in the goal. Fairport always seems to have a core of standout players, but this year it harder to see the core having lost opportunities to shine in 2020. Still, the majority of coaches in the section feel strongly that Fairport will be in the championship game again this year.

# 2952  Massapequa Wins Second State Title

Massapequa won their second State Title in school history with a 10-6 win over Fairport.  The Chiefs won their first title in 2014 with a 16-2 win over Fayetteville-Manlius.  The Chiefs scored the opening two goals and led throughout the contest.  They won the first three quarters (and tied 2-2 in the fourth).

# 2947  Peers Scores Game Winner in OT for Fairport

Fairport tied the game with 0:17 left in regulation to force overtime and then defeat Baldwinsville 8-7 in the first overtime period.  The Red Raiders had a two goal lead going into the final quarter before the Bees scored three unanswered goals within two minutes to get back in the lead.  The Red Raiders kept up their pressure and Kole Herren scored the tying goal on a feed from Klay Stuver.  Stuver was the big scorer for the day and finished with 5g-1a.

# 2943  A - B and D Advance to Semi Finals

Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: Section Five teams won three out of four today at St. John Fisher College, where the Western Regionals took place. Fairport narrowly defeated Orchard Park, 5-1 in the Class A game. Victor then followed in the Class B game where, after coming alive in the last quarter, won their game with Hamburg, 8-4. After winning their first Sectional Title in school history, East Aurora can now add their first NYS Tournament win to their list of achievements.  East Aurora fought back from a 4-0 deficit to defeat Geneva 8-6. And in The Class D game, Penn Yan came back from an early deficit to defeat Eden 8-5.

# 2939  Fairport Advances in Low Scoring Game

In the lowest scoring State game in 11 years, Fairport defeated Orchard Park 5-1 to advance to the next round.  Today’s game was also the lowest scoring Class A game in 24 years, going back to Mahopac defeating Ward Melville 2-1 in the second round of Class A Tournament of 1996.  The game was a pairing of a strong defense from both teams and a Fairport offense that had trouble getting their shots on cage.  Fairport goalie Tim Defendis finished with 12 saves (92%) and Orchard Park goalie Brendan Hamm recorded 7 saves (58%).

# 2938  2019 All Tournament Teams

The All Tournament Teams for 2018 were announced at each final on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Most Valuable Player in Class A was Colin Peers (Fairport), in Class C, Sam Miller (Geneva), in Class D, Connor Fingar (Penn Yan) and in Class B, Jack LaRue (Victor). Players were selected on the basis of their performances in the Section Five Tournaments.

# 2923  Fairport Wins First Title Since 2014

After losses in the Championship games to Penfield (9-8) last season and Pittsford (9-5) two years ago, the Red Raiders were bent on getting their first Section Five Title since 2014.  Fairport scored five goals in the second half while holding the Hilton offense scoreless to defeat the Cadets 9-4.  Key players in the success were face-off midfielder Jake Knapp and sophomore midfielder Rob Crowley.  Crowley finished with 4g on the night and Knapp finished at 8/13 at the face-off.  Both were named to the All Tournament Team for Fairport.  Knapp’s success was even more impressive based on Hilton face-off midfielder Shawn Doran’s season.  Doran finished the season at 82% with 306 wins.  Before tonight, he had never had less than 50% day at the faceoff.  Doran, for his performance throughout the Tournament was also named to the All Tournament Team.

# 2861  Many Exciting Games Played on Thursday

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: It was a big day, with fifteen games and many exciting matchups and when they games were all played, there were five one-goal games and a number of suprising finishes including Brighton at Victor, where they Barons won a 12-8 victory. Brockport was a 9-8 winner over Gates Chili, Greece was a 7-6 winner over Spencerport, Rush-Henrietta was a 6-5 winner over HF-L, Pittsford was an 11-10 winner over Irondequoit and Schroeder was an 8-7 winner over Penfield. Hilton beat Thomas 9-3. It was only the second time the Cadets (7-2) have won against the Titans.

# 2857  Stuver Scores the Final Four Goals to Give Fairport the Win

Fairport took an early lead and then held off Canandaigua to defeat the Braves 9-6.  The Red Raiders scored the final two goals in the last minute with empty net goals after the Braves pulled their goalie in an attempt to get the ball back.  Klay Stuver (who scored both empty net goals) led his team with 4g-1a.  Goalie Tim Defendis finished with 11s/6ga (65%) for the Red Raiders.

# 2850  Fairport Fights Back for Overtime Win

Fairport fought back over the final 23 minutes of the contest to defeat Webster Thomas 8-7 in the first overtime period.  The Red Raiders held the Titans scoreless for the final 22 minutes of regulation, while scoring three goals to force overtime.  Thomas scored the first goal and never trailed (although the score was tied 3 times) before Fairport scored the game winning overtime goal.  Kole Stuver scored his second goal of the game 1:33 into the first overtime period.  His brother Klay scored the game tying goal with 6:20 left in the fourth quarter.

Wednesday: DAY IN REVIEW: After a close first quarter, Fairport scored three unanswered goals in the second and three more in the last quarter to achieve a 7-2 win at Penfield. Junior midfielder Klay Stuver led the Red Raider offense with 3g while junior goalie Tim Defendis made six saves (75%). LukeCondon and Max Hoadley each scored a groal for Penfield and Travis Wagner made twenty-one saves (75%) for the Patriots who will play Victor on Tuesday. Fairport will take on Thomas, also on Tuesday.

# 1406  Brighton, Fairport and Penn Yan Win

Wednesday: DAY IN REVIEW: With three games on the last Wednesday, Brighton (8-7) beat HF-L (11-5) in a Monroe County Cross-Over game at Brighton. Brady McDermott scored 6g-1a and Owen Ronchetti added 3g for the Barons while goalie Caleb Green made 13 saves (59%). Penn Yan used six goals in the fisrt quarter on their way to a victory over Marcus Whitman. Conner Fingar led the Mustang offense with 5g-3a and Austin Blumbergs added 3g-3a. Fairport (11-4) took off in the third quaretr after a 3-1 half and coasted to a 10-4 win over Orchard Park (9-6) of section 6. Spencer Bell scored 3g-1a and Klay Stuver added 3g for the Red Raiders who will finish their season on Friday when they play Corning. Tim Defendis made 9 saves for the Fairport (82%).

Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: On a bright Saturday, there were fourteen games played. Seven were with out of Section teams and the local teams won six. Fairport was a 14-12 winner over Jamesville-DeWitt (Section 3). The Red Raiders led 10-6 at the half. Sophomore midfielder Klay Stuver led the offense with seven goals and sophomore goalie Tim Defendis recorded eighteen saves (60%). Fairport advances to 7-4 while JD drops top 10-2.

# 1333  Fairport Wins in Overtime

Fairport and Hilton played a back and forth game this afternoon.  The Red Raiders led through most of the game; however, the Cadets took their first lead of the game with 7:13 remaining in the fourth quarter.  The Red Raiders scored the final goal of regulation to send the game into overtime. Forty-five seconds into the first overtime period, Brennan Maloney scored off a feed from Spencer Bell to give the Red Raiders the win.
